Besides Books (but not really, there are books)

I’m still really busy with school, and not doing a fantastic job keeping up with blogging (oops). I am slaying at my 8 week course though, so that’s good. I am hoping to catch up on commenting soon! I try to keep up with the top few sections of my bloglovin’ list every so often but then I get distracted or face internet problems and don’t make it as far as I’d like. I will find a way to defeat the list, somehow! And I will probably do a recappish post tomorrow, but I kind of forgot about the whole 28 days thing because that’s what an intense short class will do to you, and I had this one almost ready!

book sets

I mentioned in this post that I got my niecelets some books for Christmas.Neither of the sets had actually been opened and I was actually pretty sad about it, but the oldest niece decided to read Ivy and Bean (Though, because they are Ivy + Bean, she insists on saying “Ivy Plus Bean”) the other day and finished one of them pretty quickly and really liked it! It made me feel really happy! She asked if we could read one of the other ones together sometime this week and I’m super excited about it! I’ve also been reading Dora and 5 minute Princess stories with the youngest niece. I haven’t done a whole lot of reading one on one with the middle one, but I do watch her dance a lot =)

I am behind on every TV show I watch.  And there are so many I want to start! I am hoping once my short class ends I can start catching up. I am incredibly excited about the new season of Game of Thrones! The character posters are kind of lame, but aren’t they always? I’m excited about so many things, but the wedding (Marg’s hair is ridiculous and I love it so much) and Oberyn and everything in the North and Arya and Saaaaansa are some highlights. And dragons, of course. I’m just excited. Do you watch? Are you excited? What are you most excited about?

And speaking of GOT, I saw Kit Harington in Pompeii last night. The movie isn’t exactly great but I enjoyed it, and more importantly, KIT. He is ridiculously good looking. He should be in all the things ever.

This MS MR cover of “Do I Wanna Know” by Arctic Monkeys is one of my favorite things at the moment:

Tell me some of your favorite things?

I’m back!

I survived two road trips between Oklahoma and MN/WI and a week being a lot more social than I usually am. I spent the week with my lovely nieces and now I love them about a million times more, which I didn’t think was possible.

Some other things that happened:

  • My sister got me hooked on Disney Fairy Fashion. It’s an app/game geared for children and it’s amazing and awful. My life will never be the same. Fairies! Fashion!
  • I went to the Mall of America. It was insane! We basically just went to the American Girl store for my oldest niece’s birthday. It was a lot of fun, though! I definitely want to go back sometime!
  • I shucked corn. Or half shucked, it’s a long story. It wasn’t much fun, I’m pretty sure full on shucking would have been better. Also, not sitting in a dirty garage would have helped some.
  • I got a gel manicure. I have not had many manicures and this was my first gel one. It’s supposed to last two weeks. It’s been almost a week and it’s still going strong!
  • My brother got married! It was a lot of fun. It was on the prettiest farm and his new wife’s friends and family are all so nice. The food was great, the wine was better, and there were fireworks going off in the distance during the reception and the drive back to the hotel. Beautiful.
  • I did not read near as much as I wanted to! Unfortunately, I underestimated the amount of free time I’d have. I wasn’t even super busy, but I did a lot of stuff I’m just not used to doing and by the time I had time/quiet to focus, I usually read a few pages then I was out.

I haven’t asked anyone permission to use their faces, so vague/distant photos are all you get. Top left: new sister, pre-wedding, with nieces. Chain of love. Top right: the barn where the reception was held, gorgeous. Bottom right: horses! Bottom left: the rehearsal and where the wedding took place.

On book and blog related things: I did manage one post while I was gone! Then I was too tired to edit the other posts I had scheduled. One of those posts went up because I had it scheduled as motivation to finish it, then forgot about it. I should have just saved it as a draft. Oops! Live and learn?

Anyway, I have been catching up on reading since I’ve been home so there should be some actual posts and reviews going up soon! I’m working on some, but I’ve been attacked with post-trip exhaustion and I’m trying to find the will to function again. I will be looking at all the posts I’ve missed while I was gone and commenting! I’m excited to see what all I missed!

Sorry for two personal-ish posts so close together but I felt like something was needed since I don’t have a book post ready yet. Also, pictures!

Today, around the time this post is scheduled to go up, I will be getting ready to leave for Minnesota with my sister and her three lovely daughters. We’re driving up to MN from Oklahoma with three girls (almost) seven and under, so we’re taking two days to make the trip. We’re making the trip because my brother and his fiance live there and on the 6th, they’re getting married! We’re going early to help with things and just because we like them and we can!

Sno Cone wants to go with me!

Why should you care? Well, there’s no reason, really. BUT I do have at least one post scheduled (hopefully at least two!) and while I know I’ll have internet access, I’m not sure how busy I will be. So if you comment, I might not reply as quickly or it might sit in moderation longer. Plus, I won’t be around as much to comment on posts throughout the week, but I will make time to catch up when I get back next week!

And of course I’m taking books with me! These were books I wanted to choose from. I wanted to narrow it down to four but I ended up with five. Oops.

  • Calling the Swan by Jean Thesman – I’ve had this one for so long and I’m not sure if I read it when I was younger or not. I don’t remember much about it. I might do a To Keep or Not on it when I do read it. Staying.
  • The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley – LOVE. I’ve been wanting to reread this and The Blue Sword but I think my copy of The Blue Sword is at my grandma’s house. I was sad to discover there aren’t eBook versions, either. I might buy a new copy and donate one when I find the other. I don’t think it’s that important to read them in order, but I kinda had my heart set on both so I’m waiting. Staying.
  • Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce – I put this on my Summer TBR Top Ten and it looks so great. Going.
  • American Gods by Neil Gaiman – For some reason I’ve been having a bit of trouble getting into this, but that has happened with books I’ve ended up LOVING before. I’ve only read two Gaiman books so far and need to read more! Going.
  • Assassin’s Quest by Robin Hobb – I am around halfway through this. I’ve been reading it since January or February and I love this series. However, something happened that made me really upset and so I’ve been book wussing. I think about it probably every day and just asked my friend to give me a shove and she did, so I’m going to try and push through it! I have a feeling I should probably leave it until after I get back but oh well? Going.
  • Jade Green by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor – I don’t remember reading this either. I think I might do a To Keep or Not on it, too. It sounds interesting. Green is my favorite color and I like ghosts stories so I’ll see. Plus it’s really short so it’s going in my purse and I might try to knock it out on the way. Going.
  • The Telling by Ursula Le Guin – This one was also on my Summer TBR Top Ten and I haven’t gotten to it yet. It sounds great and I really love her words so I think it might get pushed forward a bit! Also going in my purse! Going.

And of course I’ll have my trusty eReader with me! There are a few unread books on it but right now I’m excited about:

Shiloh cover

The River of No Return cover

Shiloh by Helena Sorenson – A book I received for review that I’m enjoying so far!

The River of No Return by Bee Ridgway – It sounds so great!

I also know there are some great eBook sales going on and I happen to have a gift card to both Barnes & Noble and Amazon! I have a Google Nexus so I have both apps! Are there any really great books you think I should check out? Are you buying any?

Also, if anyone is doing anything fun  or bookish this week and they just want to tell someone about it, you can tell me! I’ll probably read the comments on the drive or when we stop for the night and I’ll try to reply! I think that’s all I’ve got for now! Have a great week and 4th (if you’re American), reader friends!

Oh and have a bonus cat pic!
