Literary Fiction
I do love Jonathan Safran Foer‘s Everything is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I had mixed feelings but mainly enjoyed The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman. I liked-not-loved Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. I couldn’t get into One Day by David Nicholls. I cared a lot about the characters in The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I know I’m forgetting some! I don’t think I’ve read any in 2013.
I definitely need to expand my literary fiction reading! I’m excited read posts from today and add more books to my TBR list! I have been having a lot of fun looking at posts and getting ideas on what to read! I’ve also met some cool people! I’m really enjoying Armchair BEA.
I loved a lot Never Let me Go, and really want to read The Light Between Oceans. thanks for sharing!
I hope you get to read it soon and enjoy it! Thanks for commenting!
Yeah, I’m pretty bad at picking up literary fiction. I do usually enjoy it when I do, though, as with The Help.
I feel like I need to hear more about the story before I pick it up. Sometimes I hear books are popular but I don’t know much about the story so I’m not sure if I’d like it. But I saw a lot of books on posts today that sound really good!
I have heard such good things about The Light Between Oceans!
It was good! There were some things that frustrated me, but that happens a lot actually!
That’s one of the great things about this event. You can expand your book lists a lot! Thanks for a great post!
yes! I love all the new-to-me books I’ve heard about!
So glad you are adding to your pile and meeting people! That’s what this is all about after all!
thanks! thanks for visiting and commenting!
I really need to read Everything is illuminated, putting it on my wishlist 🙂 Thanks for stopping by my blog, happy Armchair BEA!
It was intense but I really enjoyed it! Thanks for stopping by my blog, too!
Oh my God, Never Let Me Go – yes!! I SO loved that book!
I didn’t fully connect with it, but I did like it!
I, also, could not get into One Day. But I really LOVED the Light Between Oceans. The Help was great too. Nice to meet you!
Nice to meet you, too! Thanks for commenting!
Three of my friends LOVE Extremely Loud and Incredibly close! I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet, but I hope to! 😀
Thanks for visiting my blog!

It’s fantastic! Make sure you have tissues nearby if you read it!
Thanks for visiting mine, too!
I don’t really read a whole lot of literary fiction either anymore. I used to all the time when I was in school and I really enjoyed the ones I did! I recently read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and I thought it was a pretty good read. 😀

I do seem to enjoy a lot of what I end up reading but I don’t seem to choose a lot of it!
Glad to see I’m not the only one who hasn’t really read that many literary fiction books. I also liked The Help.
I really enjoyed The Help; books set in that time period are really fascinating but seem oddly rare. I keep hearing about Never Let Me Go; I might just break down and read it one of these days.
I’ve been meaning to read The Help for a VERY long time. I loved the movie, the actors were so good and the message was just great!
Confession part 2: I read One Day only because I wanted to see the movie (I LOVE Anne Hathaway), and I like to read books before I see their movie counterparts. However, I was not very impressed. The story has a lot going for it, but the narration is so dry.
I think I actually wanted to read it because of Jim Sturgess! The narration is very dry. I can’t read about heartbreak and sad things but the writing has to be compelling!
I absolutely loved The Help, and tried getting into Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, but found that hard to get into so I put it aside for later. And I really want to read Never Let Me Go after falling in love with the movie.
I need to read Never Let Me Go still! I will. It’s on my list.
I enjoyed Everything Is Illuminated a lot more than I thought I would. I never would’ve picked it up on my own, though. A friend had to recommend it to me.
